Prepare exact-path redirects for a planned page move or temporary destination change. Choose Apache or Nginx, select a 301 or 302 status, and enter source-path and destination-URL pairs to generate configuration text.
How to Use Redirect Rule Generator
- Select Apache or Nginx and the intended redirect status.
- Enter one source path and absolute destination URL pair per line.
- Generate and review the exact-path rules, including query-string behavior.
- Apply them in the appropriate server context and verify the live redirect chain.
Map old paths to their intended destinations
The generator is designed for explicit path pairs, not broad wildcard migrations. For Apache, it outputs rewrite rules for an Apache 2.4+ document-root .htaccess file. For Nginx, it outputs exact-match location blocks. The tool does not install either configuration on your server.
Example: move one published guide
Enter /old-guide | https://example.com/new-guide for a reviewed page move. Choose the status that fits the intended behavior. The generated rules discard incoming query strings, so do not use them unchanged when a workflow requires parameter preservation.
Review configuration and loops before applying
Source paths must exclude queries, fragments, and unsupported configuration characters. Review repeated sources and make sure a destination does not redirect back to the old path. Test the rules in the correct server context, with a way to restore the previous configuration if necessary.
After installation, use the HTTP Status and Redirect Checker to inspect the actual chain. Update preferred URLs in the sitemap and any relevant canonical references.
